SYDNEY RAMSAY

Growing up in Calgary, Sydney started her dance training at the age of three. Under the guidance of the studios, Invitation to Dance, The Dance Factory, International School of Ballet, and her Performing Arts High School Dance Program she discovered an insatiable passion for expression through movement. Sydney is trained in; ADAPT tap, ADAPT jazz, traditional jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, African, swing, dancehall, stomp, improvisation, proper stretch techniques, contemporary ballet and most importantly; classical ballet (mainly under RAD study with some Russian influence from the Moscow Ballet).
In addition to her training, she participated in dance competitions from 2005 to 2008- earning over seventy medals, scholarships, and distinction and technical awards. In 2008 Sydney was recognized as the fourth overall soloist in Alberta in the twelve and under category for a solo ballet performance. She has danced with the Alberta Dance Theatre Company in their productions of ‘Lost in Space’ and ‘James and the Giant Peach’, and The Moscow Ballet Company in their performances of ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Swan Lake’. She also danced with the Jeunesse Classique Ballet Society in their productions of ‘Les Sylphides’, ‘Prince Igor’, and multiple performances of ‘The Nutcracker’.
During her time as a dancer, Sydney was fortunate enough to share the stage and studio with Kealan Mclaughlin and Svetlana Zakharova (performing alongside the soloist in the corps de ballet and taking some of her masterclasses).
Sydney has previous experience teaching ballet at another studio in town for four years and has choreographed and taught the classical preliminary one exam syllabus, along with numerous competitive numbers. Having completed her year one of the ADAPT teacher training school, Sydney hopes to continue down that path and become fully certified in the ADAPT ballet examination program.
Outside of her training and experience in the dance community, Sydney has completed her time at Lakehead University and graduated with a BA in Psychology
As a member of the Dance Dynamics Family, Sydney hopes to help shape the new dancers of tomorrow, ignite a passion for ballet and share the love she found for dance.
